I used to watch online leather crafters display the most satisfying edge beveling action. The wispy curls of leather. The consistent results.
So I purchased and used edge bevelers sourced from Amazon while trying to stay on a budget. I was left disappointed.
Then I discovered the collection of edge bevelers from Wuta, which are also available on Amazon. For those trying to get professional results without a professional budget, these provide excellent results.
Running these bevelers along the edge of leather creates a clean cut with consistent results. I started with a #2 then purchased the entire set and they are the only edge bevelers I use on my leather projects now.
Most edge bevelers have a number on them that represents the amount of material removed based on that particular tool’s size. But the number etched into the tool doesn’t mean the same thing across different brands.
Fortunately, Wuta makes deciphering their numbering system easy. Their edge beveler numbers range from 0-5, with zero removing the least amount of material and five removing the most. Based on some measurements I’ve made, here’s what each number means:
0 = about 0.5mm
1 = about 1.0mm
2 = about 1.5mm
3 = about 2.0mm
4 = about 2.5mm
5 = about 3.0mm
These Wuta edge bevelers remain in my tool lineup and cost me about half of more expensive options.
